Inquisitive minds!

“We were lucky to have the author of Saving Snow, Mark Howland, visit us today to conclude our wonderful book week. Mark signed copies of the book for children and explained how he became an author and what inspires his ideas.”

I am on a mission.

To spread the importance of the written word, for *FREE!

It is my unwavering belief, that all children must be made aware of the wonderment a well-written adventure can induce. If you are reading these words, then I am most likely preaching to the choir. But sadly, many children have had no such experience, yet…

I remember when I was at school, a grownup’s profession seemed a million miles away, attainable only after years and years of study. I also recall not having a clue in what my chosen profession would be. Looking back, I strongly suspect if I had seen a presentation by a real author for example, I may have embarked upon my own writing career considerably sooner; and achieved better English grades!

It is my earnest hope, I can inspire children in this way, by sowing the necessary seeds in their fertile minds. I believe all children should be given the opportunity to meet and question adults from varying professions from a young age. It may help provide a direction on where they intend to end up, and in doing so, commit to learning with enthused passion in the process.

In this vein, an author’s visit will hopefully encourage pupils to read more often and eagerly create their own stories with an abundance of excitement and ultimately, competency. They will learn that becoming an author is not something unachievable, but rather something that anyone can accomplish with drive and determination.

The presentation typically lasts between twenty and thirty minutes, depending on whether there is time to include simple, fun exercises. I am happy presenting to each year group, although one at a time please! At the end of each presentation I will be open to any questions from aspiring authors. If any children wish to purchase my work, then I will happily sign the books, addressing them personally. If there is a topic the school is working on, then I may be able to tweak my presentation accordingly, where possible. (The book sales are usually organised by the school and bought for me to sign at home, prior to bringing them along to hand out to the children.)

If you think your School would benefit from a presentation by a local, published author, then please complete all fields in the contact form here: https://mahowland.com/contact-us/

I look forward to visiting your school!

*Most authors, at a minimum, expect to be paid around £300 pounds for a single school visit. I am of the opinion it is an authors responsibility to charge not a penny over nothing, for encouraging curious, buoyant minds in the noble pursuit of the written word.
